Mid or Sr UX Designer @ global video streaming platform with new superhero / comics channel, entrepreneurial culture

Location: New York, NY
It's a bird. It's a plane. It's....YOU, designing sexy next-gen video streaming services, for a whole range of channels, including one dedicated to the superheroes you know + love! And there's tons of unique platforms to work on - not just your typical web / mobile / tablet ones, but also smart TVs, video gaming systems - and you get to think through complex design challenges that no one's tackling in the industry right now - blue sky, baby!
Our client started out as an indie company 7+ years ago, creating bespoke technology for streaming video from the ground up, and has become the largest online platform for international televised content. Last year they joined forces with a major media powerhouse to become their digital lab, creating and evolving streaming services for multiple channels and brands. They’re about to become the digital force behind a major new platform with a beloved comics brand.

You'd have a major role in changing the way TV and movies are delivered, empower viewers with choice, and design elegant viewing experiences for both next-gen and classic brands.

We’re looking for a Mid or Senior Experience Designer to join their growing team. You’ll be working on a broad array of their most treasured platforms and brands - defining and implementing design strategy, conducting user research and getting under the hood with real users, and presenting recommendations to stakeholders. You'll be communicating ideas through flows, wires, and prototypes, and help evolve the design process to adapt to the needs of this fast-growing team.

Culture is friendly, "no jerks", highly entrepreneurial - their HR team said "your career here is what you make of it, and you get what you put into it". It's fast-paced and is shifting constantly, so you're OK with a good amount of ambiguity and indeed enjoy carving things out and spearheading design projects, getting buy-in, and making it happen.

It's a flat structure, a true meritocracy where everyone's opinion is heard, and their CEO is accessible and never sits in an office (they don't have them!) but rather out on the floor with everyone else. They’re super collaborative, you've got a high level of ownership, and they vibe like an independent company (they’re ~90 people in NYC and 60 more in Philly) within the family of a major media company, where they encourage networking, opening up your world considerably. The company encourages mentorship and enrichment, and they support your continued education. You can chill out with your team with free yoga, video games, and company outings.

What they need to see from you:
  • At least 1-3 well fleshed-out case studies in your UX-leaning portfolio - very important. HOW do you think, and how do you communicate that?
  • Multi-platform UX design experience
  • Experience with user research + user testing
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change. There's lots of changes going on at the company as a whole, and work, projects, and focus changes on a dime - do you see this as a total pain, or a situation ripe with opportunity where you can make your mark? (hint: the 2nd option is what they need!)
  • An entrepreneurial personality who likes to carve things out for yourself. There's mentoring and guidance where you need it, but being a self-starter who's hungry, enterprising and who can get consensus quickly is ideal.

Being part of a larger company means there's great benefits too - health benefits, a very generous 401K matching program, unlimited PTO, and lots of flexibility all around.
