Visual UI Designer at EdTech startup that aims to democratize education, fulltime

Location: New York, NY
Are you an interactive visual designer who is passionate about education and wants to help create fun and novel kid-friendly software with unusual design challenges? Are you motivated by doing good and helping eradicate inequality through access to personalized education?

If so, we want to meet you!

Our client is an Educational Technology startup with a math education product already used by millions of educators and students across the country. They're a nonprofit recognized and supported with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The Robin Hood Foundation among other prominent funders, because they believe in their product and cause, and their focus on equity and free access.

They are seeking a Visual Designer to be a key part of their tightly-knit design team and help create designs across their overall product, including their public-facing online presence, student experiences, and teacher / administrator dashboards. You’ll have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the education of thousands of K-5 kids across the country, in alignment with their in-class math curriculum. You'll have an opportunity to touch virtually every part of their digital products, as well as helping set up their style guides, and get systems into place. While primarily a digital UI role, skills in illustration, motion, gaming, dashboards, and traditional graphic design layout are all a plus. And you'll be working with a Creative Director and UX Director who we have known for years and adore.

The staff is passionate about math education and their company mission – to close the achievement gaps in math between the haves and have nots in this country, and to strive towards eradicating poverty and giving every kid an equal shot at success in school and overall in life. They also believe in continual education for their own staff, and think of their office as a "think tank" - they actively attend conferences, classes, and workshops to sharpen their own minds, and they even teach each other – like starting a “Learn Mandarin” Friday afternoon class amongst themselves.

The company has successfully attracted the talent and support from top consulting firms, non-profits organizations, and EdTech companies. This is a group of super smart (with a very high Ivy league quotient) folks united by a love of learning, and making education a fun experience for all. The culture: trips to math museums and conferences, studying languages, brainstorming with other “EdTech geeks.”

The office vibe is quiet, thoughtful, academic – and known to break out for a ping-pong tournament. They’re invested in taking the time for the best solutions for the different age groups within their K-5 user base. It’s a very sane and supportive office environment, with consistently regular hours and even flexibility for some offsite work.
