Product Designer, fulltime - tech company empowering small businesses & rewarding customers - multi-device ecosystem

Location: New York, NY
We can't stop thinking about their soda machine. You can choose from a variety of flavors, and enjoy it out on their sweet downtown roofdeck with sweeping views, amongst friendly company.

It's indicative of who they are - a refreshing, sparkling, start-uppy company that values continued learning and education to a degree that not many places do. In fact, they put their money where their mouth is, and offer a yearly "educational scholarship" for each of their colleagues, so they can learn about anything they want - sailing, Mandarin lessons, skydiving, knitting, whatever! They believe a happy, well-rounded workforce is a happy and productive one, and it speaks to who they are and how they value their fellow colleagues.

They're looking to usher into their happy little family a fulltime senior Product Designer - they don't differentiate officially between "UX" and "Visual", as they all consider it Product Design. Your portfolio showcases visual design fundamentals (ie: typography), high fidelity UI comps, as well as your UX thinking - wires, flows, user research + testing prowess.

They connect customers with their favorite local small businesses, through beautifully designed loyalty apps, POS software for in-store devices, and a robust customer relationship platform. It's a huge, responsive design challenge within a complex ecosystem, that requires big-picture, conceptual thinking, all the way down to the nitty-gritty of how it's done. You'll be designing for multiple screens and devices, always thinking about the big picture of how they'll seamlessly interact with each other in both digital and real world interactions.

While they have the vibe, values, and ingenuity of start-up culture, they are a part of a network with enormous resources and infrastructure and huge market share, so you're in a small, nimble, entrepreneurial environment day to day, with the stability and backing of a larger company that lets them operate pretty much fully independently. Their offices are dreamy with clearly a lot of design thinking put into it for their employees happiness - in addition to the aforementioned soda machine and gigantic deck, they have electric standing desks, fancy coffee equipment, a sunny, well-stocked kitchen, and plenty of breakout rooms for collaboration - and yes, ping pong. It's clearly a culture of makers and tinkerers - you can see it in their design, their blog musings, and the passion projects people have in progress on their desks.

As a senior-level Product Designer, you'll be joining their mission-critical design team of 3. You’ll use your full range of visual / UI and user experience design skills to design real-world interactions that extend off the screen and make someone’s day. No assembly lines here—you’ll take ideas all the way from the whiteboard to finished interface, observe how real people use it, and figure out how to make it better.

What we're looking for...

Experience. You have a portfolio of elegant interface design that’s improved the lives of real human beings. Not just static websites, but functional apps; not just final solutions, but process.
User-centered approach. In addition to beautiful UI design, your portfolio has well-thought out UX artifacts such as sketches, user flows, experience maps, schematics and wireframes.
Collaborators. You know that the best things are made together. You’re not just open to feedback from your colleagues, you actively seek it out.
Communicators. You can articulate the reasons behind your process and your decisions, in words as well as pictures. When the topic is someone else’s work, you’ve got a helpful point of view to contribute.
Flexibility. You should be able to bring a broad range of research, ideation, and prototyping methods to the table, as well as a desire to learn new approaches from your colleagues.
The ability to create delight. Your work can, and regularly does, make others smile.

You have...

5+ years experience in a Product Design / UX / IxD role
Bachelor’s and/or Master's degree in an applicable design discipline (or at least 5 years experience).
If you're classically trained in Graphic Design and/or have a BFA, that's major brownie points.
Multi-device experience - thorough understanding of how to design for iOS, Android and responsive web applications - and how they interact with each other. IoT experience a plus.
